New chairmen have been elected to various zila parishads, important tier of local body government.

Elections to 57 zila parishads were held getting new chairmen on Monday.

Faridpur has seen independent candidate Sahadat Hossain elected chairmen.

Sahadat got 625 votes while his next rival Awami League nominated candidate Faruk Hossain 540 votes.

Chuadanga has got Awami League candidate Mahfuzur Rahman Manju elected chairman bagging 312 votes. His rival party’s rebel candidate and district Jubo League former convenor secured 249 votes.  

Rajshahi has elected Awami League candidate and valiant freedom fighter Mir Ikbal chairman. He got 598 votes and his next competitor independent candidate Aktaruzzaman 566 votes.

Khulna has elected Awami League candidate Sheikh Harunur Rashid chairman to zila parishad. He got 536 votes while his next rival, rebel candidate and district Chhatra League former president MM Murtaza Rashidi Dara 403 votes.

Patuakhali has seen Awami League background independent candidate Hafizur Rahman chairman with 583 votes. His next rival Awami League nominated Khalilur Rahman Mohon bagged 471 votes.

Panchagarh has got independent candidate Abdul Hannan Sheikh elected chairman to zila parishad with 284 votes. His nearest competitor and Awami League candidate Abu Tayebur Rahman got 231 votes.

Kishoreganj has seen Awami League candidate Md Zillur Rahman chairman getting 953 votes. His next rival Jatiya Party candidate Md Ashraf Uddin secured 257 votes.

Rajbari has elected Awami League candidate Safikul Morshed chairman to the zila parishad. He got 428 votes while his close competitor Dipok Kundu secured 138 votes.

Satkhira has got Awami League nominated candidate Nazrul Islam elected securing 608 votes. His nearest rival Halilullah Jhoru got 451 votes.

Nilphamari has seen Awami League nominated candidate, former deputy commissioner and district Awami League general secretary Momtazul Haque elected chairman bagging 535 votes.

His nearest rival independent candidate and freedom fighter Joynal Abedin got 318 votes.

Habiganj has elected Awami League nominated candidate Dr Mushfiq Hossain Chowdhury chairman for the second consecutive term with 961 votes. His rival candidate Abu Naim Md Shibly secured 77 votes.

Jhenaidah has found independent candidate Harun Ar Rashid elected chairman to zila parishad with 478 votes. His nearest rival Awami League nominated Kanak Kanti Dash managed 463 votes.

Gaibandha has got Awami League nominated candidate Abu Bakar Siddique elected chairman. He got  583 votes while his close competitor Jatiya Party candidate Ataur Rahman Ata got 523 votes.

Meherpur has elected former student leader Advocate Abdus Salam chairman with 177 votes. His nearest rival Awami League nominated candidate Golam Rasul obtained 115 votes.

Manikganj has got Awami League nominated candidate and freedom fighter Golam Mohiuddin victorious with 452 votes. His nearest rival independent candidate M Fazlul Haque Ripan got 425 votes.

Dinajpur has elected Jatiya Party nominated candidate Md Delowar Hossen chairman with 1,162 votes. His next competitor Awami League nominated candidate bagged 226 votes in the polls.

Narsingdi has found independent candidate Monir Hossain Bhuiyan sealing victory with 622 votes. His next rival Awami League nominated candidate Abdul Motin Bhuiyan got 350 votes.

Rangpur has elected Awami League’s rebel candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bablu chairman with 601 votes. Awami League nominated candidate and freedom fighter Elias Ahmed bagged 484 votes.
