4,000 thieves dominating in capital: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has made a list of 4,000 thieves in the capital. The criminals are stealing cash and valuables from different commercial and residential houses.

 AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (crime) of DMP, revealed the information at a press briefing at DMP media centre on Wednesday.

The briefing was held to disclose the arrest of a union parishad (UP) member, who so far committed 500 thefts in Dhaka and other parts of the country. 

A team of Mirpur Crime Division of police held Azizul Haque Fakir, member of ward no. 9 in Shirkhara Union of Madaripur, from the capital’s Kafrul area on Tuesday.

Hafiz said that the incident of thefts have increased in the city.

Last month, August, some 73 theft cases were lodged with different police stations under DMP, he said, adding that the number of thefts might have been more as many victims showed no interest in filing cases. 
They officer said that they would conduct special drives against the listed thieves.

On the UP member Aziz, he said that he had been committing the thefts for a long time.

He and his accomplices in a white private car roamed and targeted houses where they stole later on.
 The UP member is wanted in four theft cases.
