‘999’ call saves lives of 8 fishermen in Laxmipur

Receiving an emergency phone call at 999,  Laxmipur Naval Police saved the lives of eight fishermen.

The fishermen were rescued from Char Abdullah of Meghna river in Ramgati upazila of Laxmipur.

Ferdous Ahmed, in-charge of Barakheri Naval Police outpost, confirmed this information at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, says a media report.

It is learnt that a number of fishermen from Barishal went to the sea for fishing.

On way back, the trawler hit an area of Char Abdullah area of Ramgatti and overturned. At that time, they took refuge in char.

They began shouting when tidal water started to rise at noon. At that time, a fisherman named Hriday was crossing by Char Abdullah in a small fishing boat.

He saw the fishermen who took shelter in the char. But it was not possible for him to rescue the fishermen because of his tiny boat.

Later, it was requested by calling 999 to rescue the fishermen. Being informed, Laxmipur Naval Police rescued them in the afternoon. 

The rescued fishermen are identified as Ismail Faraji, Saiful Faraji, Ibrahim, Saddam, Rabbi, Abdul, Nurul Islam and Md. Shukkur and residents of Kakuriya of Hijla upazila in Barishal.
