WCIT is globally considered as the Olympics of information and communications technology. World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) has been organising the congress since 1978 with their members from 82 countries around the world.

This year, National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Communications Multimedia Malaysia Ministry and the Penang government hosted the international conference.

Some 4,000 delegates from 80 countries are taking part, with more than 10 keynote speakers and over 200 moderators and panelists. The conference is scheduled to end on Thursday.

With the tagline of connecting and transforming the world, WICT focused on smart city, fifth generation network, global business practices, education technology, blockchain, non-fungible tokens, inclusiveness and economic growth, e-commerce, health technology and cyber security.

BCS achieved the membership of WITSA in 1999.
