One killed in clash over land dispute in Dinajpur

A man was killed and eight others injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land-related dispute at Boro Haripur Chandina village in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur on Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 58, a resident of the village.

Quoting locals, police said two groups - one led by Nazrul and the other by Abul Haque -- of the village had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.

On Monday morning, when the men of Abul Haque went to the disputed land for plantation, Nazrul obstructed them.

At one stage, men of the both the groups attacked each other with sharp weapons, leaving nine people injured including Nazrul.

The injured were rushed to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Nazrul dead.

Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Officer-in- charge of Parbatipur Police Station Mahmudul Alam confirmed the incident.
