'Inspiring Women Volunteer Award 2022' recognises 15 champion women volunteers

UN Volunteers Bangladesh, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Bangladesh, Plan International, UN Women, and ActionAid Bangladesh have launched ‘Inspiring Women Volunteer Award 2022’ campaign to recognise and promote the invaluable contributions of women volunteers in Bangladesh towards gender equality and community development.

The award was initiated in 2021 and received huge positive responses from across the country.

“We believe, this campaign will further support harnessing synergy and explore opportunities for encouraging development partners, Government agencies, civil society, media, women agencies, volunteers, youth and other relevant stakeholders to foster the way of more participatory female volunteerism in the country. We already successfully organized the 1st webinar on this award on April 27, 2022 and 2nd dissemination seminar at Rajshahi on May 18, 2022,” reads a statement of UN Information Centre, Dhaka.

The final award giving ceremony will be held on Monday (Aug 220 at 2:30pm at LGED Auditorium at Agargaon in Dhaka.

Fifteen women volunteers will be awarded for their significant volunteering contributions. First five ranked winners will receive prize money worth BDT one lakh to ten thousand as per rankings.

All fifteen winners will receive crests, certificates, and medals. The Govt, NGOs, INGOs, VIOs, CSOs, UN, youth organizations, civil society and other key stakeholders will join the event.

Md Tazul Islam, Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives will grace the event as the Chief Guest. Md. Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Secretary of Local Government Division, Ms Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden and Sk. Md. Mohsin, Chief Engineer, Local Government Engineering Department will also attend the event as special guests.

Kazi Anowarul Haque, former Additional Secretary and Policy Expert, Dmitry Frischin, Regional Manager of Asia and the Pacific, Ms Diya Nanda, Deputy Country Representative, UN Women, Ms Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid, Md Aktar Uddin, Country Coordinator of UNV Bangladesh, Khabirul Kamal, Acting Country Director of VSO Bangladesh, Ms Kabita Bose, Country Director of Plan International will also join as distinguished speakers.

This campaign will further support harnessing synergy and explore opportunities for encouraging development partners, Government agencies, civil society, media, women agencies, volunteers, youth and other relevant stakeholders to foster the way of more participatory female volunteerism in the country.

It will highlight the women-led initiatives and their volunteer interventions towards ensuring gender equality and community development along with the importance of ensuring their safety, skill development, and recognition.
