Man held with 16 gold bars in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a person along with 16 gold bars, weighing 1 kilogram and 846 gram, from Benapole border in Jashore on Wednesday morning.

The arrestee Jony, son of Mizanur Rahman, hailed from Choto Achra village under Benapole Port Police station.

The members of BGB 21 Goga Camp arrested him from in front of United High School area at 9:00am.

Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, commander 21 BGB Battalion, “We received an intelligence information on the gold smuggling. Accordingly,  Goga camp members got ready, conducted raid near United High School area and arrested the smuggler.”

Jony was carrying the gold in various places of his body and value of the recovered gold is Tk 1.53 crore, he said.

Later, BGB handed over Jony to Sharsha Police Station.

In last six months, 21-BGB recovered 8.5 kg smuggled gold worth around Tk 6 crore and arrested five persons in this connection, said Lt Col Tanvir Rahman.
