2 nabbed in Rupnagar jewellery robbery case, 16.25 bhori of gold recovered

Law enforcers have arrested two persons in connection with robbery in a jewellery shop at Rupnagar in the capital.

During a drive, police recovered 16.25 bhori of gold from their possession.

The arrested persons are identified as Md Alaluddin, 27, and Md Shahjalal, 42.

Md Jashim Uddin Molla, DC of DMP (Mirpur), said police detected Alauddin analysing CCTV footage and arrested him from Swarnertek  village under Karnaphuli thana of Chattogram.

Based on information of Alauddin, police later arrested Md Shahjalal who is owner of Bismillah Jewellers of Cumillah sadar.

Among the two accused, Alauddin is the son of deceased Ali Hossain of Darora Bazar area of ​​Mukhashahir under Muradnagar police station of Cumilla. On the other hand, the accused Shahjalal is the son of deceased Nazrul Islam of Kamalapur village of Cumilla's Sadar Dakshin police station.

When asked about the theft, DC Jasim Uddin Molla said that at 1:10 pm on July 29, Afzal Hossain, a resident of Rupnagar residential area, locked his shop in Rajnigandha Market of the same area and went to offer Friday prayers.

While buying guavas on the street in front of the mosque after the prayers, an unidentified person told Afzal that the shutters of his shop are open. Hearing this, he quickly went to the shop and saw that the lock of the shutter of his shop was broken and empty gold boxes were scattered randomly inside the shop.

Later, he filed a case with the Rupnagar police station accusing unknown 5/7 persons.

According to the case statement, on July 29, sometime between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM, the unknown 5/7 thieves stole 40 bhori of gold ornaments and 50 bhori of silver ornaments after breaking open the lock.

“Two accused were arrested in connection with the case. Our operation is continuing to arrest the other members of this gang,” DC Jasim Uddin Molla said.

The two arrested persons were sent to court on Sunday morning with a remand application for interrogation, he added.
