Weightlifter Mabia eliminated from Commonwealth Games

Bangladesh celebrated weightlifter Mabia Akter was eliminated from the women's weightlifting event on the fifth day of 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on Monday.

Mabia ranked 8th in the women's 64kg event as she lifted a total of 181kg  (78kg snatch+103kg clean and jerk) on this day.

Bangladesh's three swimmers Sukumar Rajbonashi, Mahamudun Nobi Nahid and Morium Akter were also eliminated from their respective events.

Sukumar ranked 30th with the timing of 29.96s in men’s 50m breaststroke, Mahamudun Nobi Nahid ranked 26th with the timing of 56.78s in men's 100m butterfly and Morium Akter ranked 24th with the timing of 1:20.37 min in Women's 100m Breaststroke.

Bangladesh’s Boxer Salim Hossain lost to India’s Mohammed Hussam Uddin by 5-0 in the round of 16 matches of men’s over 54kg-57kg (Featherweight).

Salim was at the blue corner while his opponent was at the red corner. Out of five judges, four gave Salim 27 points and one gave him 25 points while his opponent got 30 points from each one of them.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh will take part in three events – swimming, boxing and weightlifting. Swimmer Asif Reza will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle, boxer Hossan Ali will fight against Uganda’s Owen Issac Kibira in the welterweight category (63.5-67 KG) and weightlifter Monira Kazi will take part in the women’s 76 KG category.
