The government has reduced budget of fuel for the officials of government and semi-government offices, state-owned financial organisations and autonomous bodies by 20 percent in view of the economic austerity.
The Ministry of Finance issued an order on Thursday that the government and other aforesaid offices have to expend highest 80 percent of the fund allocated for petrol, oil, lubricant and gas by the national budget for FY 2022-23.
The fund allocated for power and energy cannot be used for other purposes, said the order signed by Deputy Secretary of Ministry Finance Muhammad Anisuzzaman.
According to the finance ministry, the order will come into effect immediately.
It may be noted that the above order came against the backdrop of the dollar crisis triggered by Russia-Ukraine war.
