Ex-Supreme Court judge Kazi Ebadul Haque dies

Kazi Ebadul Hoque, former judge of the appellate division of Bangladesh Supreme Court, passed away at a hospital in the capital early Friday.

The Ekushey award winning Language Movement veteran breathed his last at 12:00 midnight while undergoing treatment.

Supreme Court spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter to media.

He said that the namaj-e-janaja of Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque will be held at the Supreme Court premises at 2:30pm after Jumma prayers.

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ebadul and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

He also conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family members.

Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque was awarded the Ekushe Padak in 2016 while his wife Professor Sharifa Khatun also received Ekushey Padak in 2017. His daughter Kazi Zinat Hoque is a Judge at the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Born in Feni in 1936, he was a student of Dhaka University. Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque played a leading role in the language movement in Feni in 1952.
