Teacher killing: Student Zitu placed on 5-day remand

School student Ashraful Islam Zitu, who reportedly killed a lecturer named Utpal Kumar Sarkar of Hazi Yunus Ali School and College at Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital, was placed on a five-day remand in a murder case.    

On Thursday (June 30), Zitu was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka.  

At this time, the investigation officer (IO) of the case and also officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Emdadul Huq submitted a petition seeking ten days remand for Zitu.

After the hearing, senior judicial magistrate Razib Hasan granted a five-day remand of Zitu.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ashraful Islam Zitu was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion from Sreepur of Gazipur. 

Zitu injured his institution’s teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar critically by a cricket stump on June 25 last.

Later, Utpal Kumar Sarkar died on June 27 (Monday) while undergoing treatment at hospital.

Ashim Kumar Sarkar, the elder brother of the teacher, filed a case with Ashulia Police Station mentioning unanimous persons including student Zitu in connection with the incident.
