Smuggling gold: One held with 10 gold bars in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested a man along with 10 gold bars weighing one kg at Novaran More area in Benapole while smuggling those to India.

The arrestee was identified as Monirujjaman, son of late Sher Ali Morol, of Namajgram under Benapole Port Police Station.

Lt Cornel Shahed Minhaj Siddique, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49 of Jashore, said acting on secret information, they recovered the gold bars after searching a Satkhira-bound bus at Novaran area on Sunday morning.

Mentioning that the arrestee has confessed to being involved in gold smuggling in India, he said detainee Moniruzzaman will be handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

The market value of the gold is over Tk 1 crore, he added.
