Defence budget goes up: Tk 40,360 cr proposed

The government has proposed raising the budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces Division and other services to Tk 40,360 crore for the fiscal year (FY) 2022-2023.

The defence sector budgetary allocation is Tk 2,669 crore higher than the proposed budget of the previous fiscal year 2021-22 of Tk 37,691 crore.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the allocation for the defence services while presenting Tk 678,064 crore proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 in the parliament on Thursday.

Besides, Tk 45 crore has been allocated for the Armed Forces Division (AFD) in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023. Which is 1 crore more than the proposed budget in the outgoing fiscal year. On the other hand, from the revised budget of Tk 48 crore for the outgoing fiscal year, less than Tk 3 crore has been proposed in this fiscal year 2022-2023 proposed budget.

Earlier the government allocated Tk 37,691 for defence services in the fiscal year 2021-22, which was reduced to Tk 37,533 crore in the revised budget.
