Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association-Bangladesh (IIMCAA, B) accorded award to NEWS24 TV.

Raheed Ejaz, Diplomatic Correspondent of the daily Prothom Alo, and Shameema Dola, Editor of News Now Bangla, have also been awarded for reporting on relations between two countries.

The award-giving ceremony was held at the Dhaka Club in the capital on Saturday.

Team Undercover of NEWS24 has bagged the award for report of 2019, Raheed Ejaz of 2020 and Shameema Dola of 2021.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami, and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim handed over crest, certificate and Tk 50,000 award money to each of the awardees.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hasan Mahmud said "It is usual for us to maintain good relations with India which helped us get independence in 1971. A section of people make anti-Indian statements for political gain. It should be kept in mind that Bangladesh cannot develop showing antagonism towards a neighbouring country like India. The journalists should be cautious not to make report or cover statements which are prejudicial for Bangladesh-India relations,” he said.

Vikram K Doraiswami said journalists can highlight their country by candlelight and the awardees did the work well.

Being bosom friend, India is determined to cooperate with Bangladesh to the best of its ability, he added.

IIMCAAB President and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim presided over the programme which was attended by IIMCAAB General Secretary Zahid Newaz Khan and senior journalist Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, among others.

UNB Editor Farid Hossain, chief of the awardee selection jury board, addressed the programme.

The NEWS24 TV received the award for its in-depth report on influx of Indian firearms into Bangladesh.
