710 rare tortoises seized in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 710 pieces of rare species tortoises from Boalia Bazar under Benapole port police station on Wednesday noon, UNB reports.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of BGB-26, said being tipped off that a some rare species tortoises were being smuggled into the country from India, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and seized the tortoises worth Tk 10 lakh from 10 sacks.

 

The seized tortoises were handed over to Jessore forest department.
