Why was Poet Nazrul sent to Bangladesh?

Today (24th May) is a remarkable day in the history of Indo-Bangladesh relationship because on this very day exactly fifty years ago 'Rebel Poet' Kazi Nazrul Islam went to newly formed Bangladesh from Kolkata. He went on to become the National Poet of Bangladesh and never returned to India.

This happened after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman requested the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to send the poet to Bangladesh and Mrs Gandhi gave her consent after consulting Poet's family.
