Value of taka declines further

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has reduced the value of taka against the US dollar.

The exchange rate of per US dollar was fixed at Tk 88 increasing TK 0.40 on Monday.

Sources said the central bank's decision aims at discouraging unnecessary import amid severe crisis of dollar in the market and giving benefits at exchange rate of remittance and export earnings.

The BB fixed exchange rate of US dollar at Tk 86 by increasing Tk 0.20 at the beginning of the January. Later on March 23, the dollar price was Tk 86.20.

In May of last year, per dollar was sold at Tk 84.80 in the inter-bank. That time dollar price increased by Tk 1.90.    

The import has increased after Covid-19 pandemic due to rise in economic activities. Meanwhile, the prices of imported goods have increased.
