A delegation of WASH related CSOs handed over nine point country commitment to the environment minister Shahab Uddin, MP to place it to the Sector Ministers’ Meeting (SMM) to be held in Indonesia.

The eight-member delegation of the WASH related CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) led by SWA CSO South Asia Representative Zobair Hasan met the environment minister at his residence in the capital on Sunday.

The CSOs delegation met with Minister of Environment and Climate Change and handed over the nine-point country commitment to be discussed at the Sector Ministers Meeting.

The upcoming Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Sector Ministers’ Meeting (SMM) will be held on 18-19 May 2022 in Jakarta of Indonesia.

A delegation of the Bangladesh government led by the environment minister is also likely to join the meeting in Indonesia.

The meeting will be hosted by the government of Indonesia and is convened jointly by the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) global partnership and UNICEF.

The meeting will focus on the theme of Building Forward Better for Recovery and Resilience.

The SMM will provide a unique opportunity for an active dialogue between ministers responsible for water, sanitation, and hygiene, and ministers responsible for health, climate, environment, and economy.

Discussions will focus on the review of WASH policies and commitments, and on approaches to ensure that climate action, health, and economic recovery are well integrated.

Leaders from UN agencies, civil society, bilateral and multilateral donors, research & learning institutions, private sector, utilities and regulators as well as international financial institutions and philanthropic organizations will also join the discussions.
