Election Commission (EC) has set April 25 for declaration of the election schedule of Cumilla City Corporation.

Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath of the Election Commission (EC) confirmed this on Wednesday.

He said the probable date of the commission meeting has been fixed for April 25. This could set the date for other local government elections, including some union councils, and municipalities.

The polls will be held under electronic voting machine (EVM) system.

EC officials said the last election in the city was held on March 30, 2017 and the first meeting was held on May 17 of the same year.

According to the law, the term of the elected city corporation is 5 years from the first meeting. 

So, the term of this city corporation will end on May 16 this year.
