Running staffers of Bangladesh Railway have withdrawn their strike, which they started early Wednesday demanding 75 percent running allowance along with other retirement benefits, following the authorities' assurance to meet their demand.

The protesters said that they decided to withdraw their strike as the Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan assured them that their demand will be met immediately.

The government cancelled the 75 percent running allowance after retirement last year.

Around 5am, running staffers, including loco masters, began their strike in protest against the government’s recent decision to revoke the allowance.

Railway minister, the secretary and other senior officials met with the protesting loco masters at Kamalapur railway station in the morning to resolve the issue.

Sources said that they started the sudden strike after they came to know that the finance ministry recently turned down railway ministry's proposal to reinstate the previous benefits.
