A yaba trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chittagong early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Md. Jafor, a resident of Anowara in Chittagong.
Earlier in May, after seizing a large shipment of yaba, RAB personnel filed a case accusing Jafor as a mastermind of the incident, said Sohel Mahamud, assistant director of RAB-7.
In that case, RAB detained Jafor today but his associates attacked on RAB at sea beach area in Chittagong, he added.
In retaliation, RAB also opened fire. At one stage Jafor prompted to flee the scene and caught in the line of fire.
The incident took place around 12:00am and left Jafor dead on the spot.
During the time, the elite force recovered 10,000 pieces yaba tablets and two pistols from the spot.
RAB disclosed the matter through a message in the morning.
