The DMP chief said they formed a two-member probe body to look into the incident and asked the body to unearth the fact within three working days.

Tarek was posted at Protection Division.

Biplob Kumar Sarkar, deputy commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Crime Division, told reporters at his office that Tarek hailing from Jashore teased Dr Lata Samaddar, lecturer of Tegjaon College.

He was identified by scrutinising CCTV footage of the incident area at Farmgate, said the DC.

Tarek confessed that she had incident with the teacher.

Biplob said that they were interrogating him to know why he committed so.

“Investigation into the complaint lodged by the teacher is being done,” he said.

On Saturday, Dr Lata, lecturer of Theater and Media Studies  lodged a complaint with Sher-e-Bangla Police Station alleging a man in police uniform having long beard teased her for wearing teep on her forehead and at one stage, he tried to run over her legs.

In the meantime, Dhaka University Teachers Association demanded exemplary punishment for the constable.

The association in a written statement termed the behaviour of the policeman to the teacher as racist and abusive.

The association is angry and shocked over the teasing incident for wearing teep.

“When the present government is working for a developed country irresponsible of religion, race and gender, the teasing to a teacher by a policeman, who should watchful to ensure security for safe commuting of women, is extremely unwanted,” said the written statement.

To the police department, the association said that they believe that the force will not take the liability of an individual’s offence.

The association demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
