Hasan Mahmud requests Khaleda not to celebrate her birthday on Aug 15

Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud today requested BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15, reports BSS.

"Though your actual birthday is not on the National Mourning Day on August 15, you are celebrating your fake birthday by cutting cake on that day. We hope, you will refrain from doing such deplorable activity from this year seeking apology to the nation for what you have done over the years," he said.

Dr Hasan Mahmud made this call pointing at Begum Khaleda Zia while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Bangladesh, a middle income country and Jananetri (people's leader) Sheikh Hasina" at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy at Segunbagicha in the city.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion with its vice-president KMR Manzur in the chair. Former state minister for home affairs Advocate Shamsul Huq Tuku, assistant secretaries to Awami League sub-committees MA Karim and Shahjahan Alam Saju, freedom fighter Abdul Hye Kanu and Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana were the discussants, among others.

Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "Bangladesh has been marching ahead under the capable and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It's the achievement of Sheikh Hasina that the country has been elevated to a middle income state. We hoped that BNP would hail the nation and the Prime Minister for this achievement. But, they (BNP) didn't congratulate the Prime Minister for this for their inferiority complex being defeated in the political contest."
