A Dhaka University student was stabbed  while trying to catch snatcher in Science Laboratory intersection in the capital on Tuesday.

The injured was identified as Mahbubur Rahman, 24, a honours final year student of International Relations Department of the university.

The incident happened at 4:15pm.

Sadi, a classmate, said Mahbubur on way to Savar riding on the bus of the university, came under attack in front of Aarong showroom at Science Laboratory by resisting a snatcher while taking away a mobile phone from a girl. At one stage, snatcher Rubel stabbed him in the head. Later, mob lynched Rubel and handed over to police.

Later, Mahabubur was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Anisur Rahman, sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station, confirmed the matter.
