Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday urged the political leaders to reach consensus for holding a free and fair election.
“We plead with you to reach consensus so that election can be held in befitting manner. There will be no violence. No one will stop anyone,” said the CEC during a press conference at the media center of the commission.
Later, the CEC addressed a press conference at the media center of the Election Commission Secretariat at Agargoan in the Capital.
The CEC said, “If the political parties do not share some responsibility, the EC will have to do alone. We have a responsibility to appeal, request or urge the political leadership. We will cooperate with the political leadership.”
If political leader does not support each other and do not have minimal compromise, the EC can’t be their mentor, he opined.
Terming political leaders more knowledgeable and experienced, he sought support of the politicians to consolidate democracy by holding elections with the participation of all.
