Customs Intelligence detained a cleaner with 36 gold bars weighing over 4kgs at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday morning.

The arrestee is identified as Md Suruzzaman.

Riazul Islam, deputy commissioner of Customs House, said the custom officials recovered the gold bars worth around Tk 3 crore when he was trying to take the bars out of the airport keeping those in his pocket.

Customs officials suspected that an inbound passenger might have smuggled those gold in the country and handed those to the cleaner.

A process in underway to take legal action against the cleaner, he said.
