Dhaka, Tashkent to promote bilateral trade, resume direct flights

Bangladesh and Uzbekistan are expected to sign a deal for cooperation in banking sector of the two countries for the further development of bilateral trade and economic relations.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Uzbekistan Md Zahangir Alam had a meeting with Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan Mamarizo Berdimuratovich Nurmuratov on Wednesday (Jan 26) at Central Bank of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. 

During the meeting, both sides discussed the prospects for cooperation in the banking sector of the two countries for the further expanding trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh, said a press release of the Bangladesh Embassy.

Ambassador and Chairman agreed to consider signing of MOU between Central Banks of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan and proceed the matter of concluding Relationship Management Agreement (RMA) between banks of both the countries to remove barriers of LC at present businessmen of both countries are facing in their trading.

Chairman of the Central Bank expressed appreciation for taking initiative to develop relations in banking sector and assured Ambassador to provide all out support in banking for the development of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh envoy paid an official visit to Navoi region of Uzbekistan where he had a meeting with Governor of Navoi Region of Uzbekistan Normat Tulkunovich Tursunov on January 24 at Navoi Regional Municipality.

Navoi Governor welcomed Bangladesh Ambassador and expressed gratitude for visiting the Navoi Region. He shared general information about the youngest region of Uzbekistan – Navoi and facilities being provided in free economic zones of this region. 

Both sides discussed establishment of cooperation in the potential fields like textiles, pharmaceuticals and ICT also trade opportunities in agricultural sector

Bangladesh Ambassador Zahangir Alam laid importance on connectivity and requested Governor to pursue with Uzbekistan Authority the matter of resumption of direct passenger flights between two countries and cargo flights from Navoi.

The Governor assured that his office will explore potential sectors and projectsfor cooperation between the two friendly countries.

On the same day, Ambassador Alam visited Navoi International Airport and had a meeting with Director of Cargo of “Navoi International Airport” LLC Shodibek Suyundikovich Kuchqarov to explore the possibility of exporting Bangladeshi goods to Uzbekistan and other Central countries.

Airport Authority also expressed their desire to extend all kind of cooperation to re-establish cargo flights between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
