Bangladesh national football team defender and Bashundhara Kings captain Topu Barman’s torn ligament will be fixed Sunday while he undergoes surgery at a hospital in Mumbai.
The club’s head of strategy and planning Bayazid Alam Zubair Nipu confirmed the development to The Daily Sun on Saturday.
“He will undergo the surgery today. We talked with him. The injury was serious, no other way except it,” Nipu said.
Topu will be out of the field for at least seven or eight months after this surgery which means he will be out of the service during the upcoming important schedules including FIFA windows in March-April, AFC Cup and BPL.
Meanwhile, the veteran defender got the blow during the semifinal match of the Independence Cup between Kings and Police FC last December.
Apart from him, defender Tariq Raihan Kazi, midfielders Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Fahad, Obaidur Rahman Nawab and Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandes also got injuries.
The club observed that the poor turf of the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur is responsible for the injury cases, so they later withdrew their participation from Bashundhara Group Federation Cup that also took place there.
