A court sentenced 10 leaders and activists of BNP to five-year rigorous imprisonment each in a case lodged over blasting cocktails to create disorder in the capital's Bhashantek area in 2013.
Judge Amirul Islam of Dhaka 9th Special Tribunal pronounced the judgement this morning, also fined the convicts Taka five thousand each, to suffer three-months more behind the bars in default.
Confirming the matter to BSS, prosecutor Obaidul Haque said the convicts blasted cocktails at Bhashantek intersection in the capital, during the BNP-led alliance's hartal on November 26, 2013.
Bhashantek Police Station sub-inspector Jahidul Islam filed the case. Investigation officer and Bhashantek Police Station sub-inspector ABM Asaduzzaman filed charge-sheet in the case on March 31, 2014. Ten prosecution witnesses were examined by the court on different dates, while four defence witnesses testified for the accused.
