CHATTOGRAM: Former Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) President Dr Dilip Kumar Roy has said the country’s jewellery industry is going to enter a new era under the dynamic leadership of organisation’s incumbent President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir, managing director of Bashundhara Group and Bashundhara Gold Refinery Limited, will lead the industry and materialise the dreams about the sector, he said while addressing the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of BAJUS Chattogram district unit at Bonjour Restaurant in the city’s GEC area on Sunday afternoon.
He said BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has taken a Tk 12,000-crore project for setting up a gold refinery in the country. “Our gold ornaments will be exported all over the world. He (Anvir) wants to bring a revolution in the jewellery industry and bring back its lost glory,” he said.
The former BAJUS president laid emphasis on organisational strength for materialising the dreams and increasing the area of VAT for further expansion of the industry.
The BAJUS central committee will help ensure security and business-friendly environment for the businesspeople of the sector, he said.
BAJUS Vice-president Gulzar Ahmed stressed the need for removing division between the association leaders for the sake the industry’s advancement. “The BAJUS president also doesn’t like internal division and so, he formed committees comprised of the two groups in Dhaka,” he said.
The BAJUS chief wants to develop the industry as an export-oriented one, said Gulzar.
He expressed the hope that the gold industry will secure the next position after the garment industry in terms of contribution to the country’s economy in the coming days.
Newly elected President of BAJUS Chattogram district unit Mrinal Kanti Dhar presided over the ceremony, which was also addressed, among others, by district unit Convening Committee Member Mizanur Rahman Manik, newly elected General Secretary Pranab Saha, Assistant Secretary Kajal Banik and former President Nurul Absar.
Earlier, Election Board Chairman Dr Dilip administered oath to the new office-bearers and greeted them.
