Kashimpur Central Jail-2 authorities have seized a mobile phone from the possession of Nur Hossain, who is currently awaiting execution in a condemned cell for the Narayanganj seven-murder.

The cell phone was confiscated on January 5, Jail Superintendent Abdul Jalil of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 confirmed the matter on Saturday.

A three-member probe committee has been formed to figure out how the device was brought into the prison. The head of the probe committee is Umme Salma, deputy superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail-2, member secretary deputy jailer Nurul Mobin and member Chief Jailor Md Asaduzzaman.

The three-member probe committee had been asked to submit its report by January 11.

Abdul Jalil, jail superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail-2, said there were three inmates, including Nur Hossain, in the condemned cell of the jail. He is a convicted criminal in the Narayanganj seven murder cases and a former councillor.

“We received a tip-off that Nur Hossain had been using a phone from his condemned cell. Later, a raid was carried out on the condemned cell on January 5. A mini button mobile phone was recovered from the condemned cell at that time,” he added,

Nur Hossain will face legal action for using a phone while in jail, said the prison official.

Sources said the death row inmate had reportedly been using the phone to keep in contact with influential people to ensure that his younger brother Nur Uddin and nephew Shah Jalal Badal would win in the upcoming election to Narayanganj City Corporation.
