Former Awami League MP from Feni and a prominent political figure Joynal Hazari has passed away.

He breathed his last on Monday (December 27) at around 5:30 pm while undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital in the capital.

Feni district Awami League office secretary AK Shahidullah Khandaker and news editor Jasim Uddin of Hazarika Pratidin edited by Joynal Hazari confirmed the matter to media.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep condolences and sympathy over the demise of the former lawmaker of the ruling party.

Joynal Hazari was the General Secretary of Feni District Awami League from 1974-2004. He was elected MP from Feni-2 (Feni Sadar) constituency in 198, 1991 and 1996. He also served as the advisor of the central committee of the Awami League.

He was expelled from Awami League on 2 May 2005 for his involvement in anti-organisational activities.

The veteran politician returned to the party after 15 years as an advisor to the central committee in 2019. He was appointed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He had received a grant of Tk40 lakh by the prime minister for his medical expenses.
