Bashundhara Group, the largest business conglomerate of the country, brought smile to the cold-hit distressed people by giving them blankets in various places of the country on Sunday.

The blanket distribution programme beginning in the northern region has expanded to the southern districts to dissuade sufferings of the poor caused by pinching cold.

On Tuesday, the Bashundhara Group distributed blankets among 600 people in Jashore Sadar upazila, 300 in Monirampur, 300 in Keshabpur, 200 in Chowgacha, 200 in Benapole, 200 Bagharpara and 200 Abhoynagar.

The recipients includes Rina Begum, an elderly woman, living in the veranda of a tiny house near Jashore rail station. She has no relatives to be helped. She cannot earn livelihood by begging due to leg pain. She received a blanket at a programme held at Jashore Town Hall premises.

Becoming happy with blanket, she said “I have no warm clothe. Pinching cold does not allow me to sleep at night. Now, I am delighted to get a blanket. May Allah bless the owner of the Bashundhara Group for standing beside the people like me.”

Blind person Muktar Hossain was one of the vulnerable persons to have received blankets from the largest industrial conglomerate.

In reaction, he said “I am too old to fight the cold. The blanket will be of great help to me. I will be able to protect myself from cold by dint of the blanket and sleep well. May Bashundhara Group be able to help poor more in future.”

Jashore Zilla Parishad Chairman Saifuzzaman Pikul attended the blanket distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
