Bashundhara Group, the largest business conglomerate of the country, distributed blankets among cold-hit poor people in different parts of Khulna, Nilphamari and Gaibandha on Thursday.
In Joldhaka Upazila of Nilphamari, 300 distressed people received blankets at a programme held on Rabeya Chowdhury Women's College premises.
Receiving blankets, widows Mariton Bawa, Sherina Bawa, Atenur, Shamo Bawa and Joyanta Rani expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Group.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbub Hasan, secondary education officer Chanchal Kumar Bhowmik were present at the function.
In Khulna Lions School and College, over 500 poor people received blankets and prayed for the welfare of the Bashundhara Group.
Hailing from Gollamari of Khulna, Shanti Das, a 60-year old widow, said “I lost my husband long ago. My son is sick. I will give the blanket to him.”
In Gaibandha, 200 insolvent people received blankets from the Bashundhara Group at a function held at the premises of Genius School and College.
Receiving a blanket, Saleha Bewa, 67, said “We are badly affected by the pinching cold. The blanket will be of great help during this winter.”
Officer-in-Charge of the local police station, among others, attended the programme. He also lauded Bashundhara Group for standing by the cold-hit people.
