Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute carried out free surgery on 16 cataract patients at the hospital in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital on Thursday.

Dr Fahad H. Khan, medical director of Vision Specialists of California, USA, and Dr Rubina Akhter took part in the operation under supervision of Dr Moutushi Islam, a professor of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute.

The patients -- nine men and seven women -- had been suffering from severe cataract problems.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute and Vision Care Foundation organised the free eye camp.

Mohammad Ahsan Habib, manager (human resources and administration) of the hospital, said this initiative has been taken to provide eye treatment to the poor and cataract patients.

“More than 1,000 patients already received free surgery through this free eye camp across the country.”

However, the activities of this eye camp have remained suspended in different districts due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is still going on in the hospital,” he added.
