A seminar in New York has raised the question as to why the atrocities of March 25, 1971 in Bangladesh are not being listed as 'International Genocide'.

The seminar was organised by the Genocide ‘71 Foundation USA in New York on the occasion of the International Day of Genocide and Prevention on December 9. It also featured a documentary on the genocide titled ‘Cry for Justice’.

The event was presided over by the President of the Genocide ’71 Foundation, Dr Pradeep Ranjan Kar. The meeting was moderated by the general secretary of the organisation Manzur Chowdhury.

Deputy Representative of Bangladesh in the United Nations Monwar Hossain, New York State Assemblymen Jessica Gonzalez Rojas and Jennifer Rajkumar, Consul General of Bangladesh in New York SM Nazmul Hasan, First Secretary (Press) of the Mission Nur Elahi Mina, Journalist Syed Mohammad Ullah, Democrat Leader Murshed Alam, USA Awami League leader Mohammad Ali Siddiqi, Advocate Shah Mohammad Bakhtiyar and Abdur Rahim Badsha took part in the discussion.

Among others, General Secretary of United States JSD Noor Alam Ziko, President of United States Sheikh Hasina Manch Jalal Uddin Jalil, Joint General Secretary of United States Women's Awami League Rumana Akter, Jolly Kar, President of New York Metropolitan Juba League Khandaker Zahidul Islam, former Vice President of United States BCL Shahidul Islam, Syed Jewel and Golam Roni of Ganajagaran Manch also participated in the discussion.
