Bangladesh Navy emerge champions in Bangabandhu National Fencing

The closing ceremony of Bangabandhu 4th National Fencing Tournament was held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur in the capital on Sunday. 
Bangladesh Navy won the champions title in the contest-winning 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 8 bronze medals while Bangladesh Army became the first runners-up obtaining 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 5 bronze medals. Ansar-VDP became the second runners-up attaining 2 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. 
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP joined the closing ceremony virtually. He appreciated the organizers of the tournament. He offered his best wishes for Bangladeshi fencers and expressed hope that Bangladeshi fencers will be able to uplift the country’s honour by winning medals and trophies from international fencing competitions. 
Tanvir Shakil Joy MP, Chairman of Bangladesh Securities & Exchange Commission (BSEC) Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, Captain Tanzim Faruq of Bangladesh Navy, Additional Inspector General of Police (Retd) Abdul Mabud PPM and Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah attended the event as special guests. 
Bangladesh Fencing Association President Shoeb Chowdhury presided over the closing ceremony. He said, “Bangladeshi fencers have the capability to create history by performing brilliantly at home and abroad.” Shoeb Chowdhury thanked the sponsors of the tournament for coming up to financially back up the contest. Shoeb Chowdhury recalled the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s supreme contribution in liberating Bangladesh. He also commemorated the martyrs including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were assassinated on 15 August 1975. Shoeb Chowdhury stated that nobody can hold down Bangladeshi fencers. 
Tanvir Shakil Joy said, “Bangladesh has made enormous socio-economic advancement during last several years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina is a sports-friendly leader and she wants Bangladesh to do well in sports. Bangladesh has made much progress with sports under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. Bangladeshi fencers can brighten the country’s image through their performance in international fencing competitions including the Olympic Games.”
BFA General Secretary Selim Omrao Khan applauded the significant role of BFA President Shoeb Chowdhury for his tremendous efforts, dedication and hard work for promoting the game of fencing in Bangladesh. 
BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam said that both a healthy body and healthy mind are required for physical as well as mental development. He emphasised sports and stated that Bangladesh’s youths have the quality and acumen to shine in sports. Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam admired Bangladesh Fencing Association officials for hosting the tournament in the month of victory. 
Bangladesh Fencing Association Treasurer Kazi Saiful Hoque spoke very high of the strong initiatives executed by BFA President Shoeb Chowdhury in organizing different tournaments and boosting the confidence of the fencing players.
A cultural show was also conducted during the closing ceremony. The chief guest and special guests distributed prizes and medals among the participants at the end of the event.
