Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon has urged Bangladesh fans to refrain from criticising the Bangladesh cricketers, stating that all should support Bangladesh cricketers in their bad days.
Bangladesh cricketers have been facing brutal criticism from their fans since their T20 World Cup downfall. The team and cricketers attracted severe criticism for the way they played in the T20 World Cup in fact; they failed to perform in the ongoing Pakistan series.
Talking with media, BCB chief said, “Pakistan batsman Babar Azam failed to click in T20 series against us. He is one of the best batsmen in the world. But he was not criticised by their fans. So why our team and cricketers face criticism when they play bad.”
“Mashrafe, Shakib, Mushfiqur, Tamim, Mahmudullah all gave a lot to the team. They need support and they deserve it. I don’t understand why fans are criticising them needlessly?” he said.
Prior to the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh clinched back-to-back T20 series at their own backyard playing on slow and low surfaces and their World Cup preparation was questioned after playing sluggish pitches. The Mirpur came under the scanner for its slow and low nature with many criticising BCB for producing such harmful wickets for the batsmen. However, Papon defended much-criticised Mirpur’s slow pitch, saying every team makes pitches according to the preference of their team to win the game.
“Who doesn’t want to win? Every team makes pitches according to the preference of their team. Every team takes advantage of their home conditions,” he said.
“You can see India or Sri Lanka wickets. India made spin heavy wickets against New Zealand. They did not make bouncy wickets. New Zealand has a powerful pace attack. So India made the pitch as their choice to make it difficult for New Zealand batsmen. Today Ajaz Patel took 10 wickets against India. Did Indian fans criticise the spin-friendly wicket? So why our fans are criticizing the pitches?”
