Saif SC, Bangladesh Army clinch victory in Independence Cup

Saif Sporting Club Limited all but confirmed their place in the last eight of the ongoing Independence Cup after they defeated Bangladesh Muktijoddha SKC by a 3-2 margin during their second Group C match at the Bir Sherestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium on Thursday.
Saif SC forward Foysal Ahmed Fahim, defender Nasirul Islam and substitute forward Sazzad Hossain scored one goal each for the winning side in the 17th, 41st and 81st minute respectively to give their side a 3-0 lead in the match.
Muktijoddha’s Japani forward Tetsuaki Misawa scored two late goals in the 87th and 93rd minute to bring some excitement in the game but Saif SC finally held their nerves to clinch their second successive victory in the tournament.
In the day’s other Group C match, Bangladesh Army Football Team handed Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited a shocking 2-1 defeat at the same venue to keep alive their quarterfinal qualification chances in the tournament.
Army forward duo Ranju Sikder and Shahariar Emon netted one each in each half before Mohammedan midfielder Rakib Khan Evan scored a consolation goal in the injury time of the second half.
Saif SC are currently leading the Group C points table with six points while Mohammaden and Army both have three points and Muktijoddha are yet to open their account.
Meanwhile, Rahamatganj MFS will take on Swadhinata Krira Chakra in a Group A encounter at the same venue today.
