Workshop on “Research Capacity Building” held at IUB

 

As part of a program involving collaboration between industry and academia, the School of Environment and Life Sciences (SELS) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a two-day technical skill development workshop titled “Research Capacity Building” at IUB during 01-02 December 2021.

The workshop was sponsored by the leading pharmaceutical company Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. A large number of IUB students actively participated in the workshop. They were offered training and lectures in research methodologies as well as importance of research ethics and biosafety issues by experts from various organizations including icddr,b, WHO, IUB and cBLAST. The students also gained essential hands-on experience on proposal writing, molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics programming. The purpose and scope of the workshop was explained by Prof Shah M Farque, Dean, SELS.

In the inaugural session of the workshop, the Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), IUB Mr. A. Matin Chowdhury said, “Development of research capacity at academic level can be the missing link in the pathway to lead a generation of young minds who will eventually drive the nation forward”.

Former Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), IUB Mr. Rashed Chowdhury said, “Students will be largely benefitted through such workshops which will help them become skilled researchers”.

The Vice-Chancellor of IUB Tanweer Hasan, PhD said that IUB will continue to collaborate with industries in its effort to promote quality research and welcomed the support of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd wholeheartedly.

Mr Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals said various industries can play a significant role in encouraging research at academia for accelerated development and new medicinal breakthroughs. 

The workshop saw a huge attendance from invited guests, faculty members and students.
