Aminbazar six-murder case verdict tomorrow

A Dhaka court will deliver tomorrow (Thursday) verdict on a case lodged in connection with murder of six students in Aminbazar on the outskirts of Dhaka in 2011.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Ismat Jahan will pronounce the verdict.

Earlier, the court fixed the date of verdict and cancelled bail of 51, out of 58, accused and sent them to jail.

On the night of Shab-e-Barat on July 18, 2011, seven friends — students of different academic institutions in Dhaka — went to visit Bardeshi village near Aminbazar bridge under Savar police station in Dhaka.

A gang called Bardeshi regarded the students as ‘robbers’ and shouted. The villagers rushed to the spot and beat up the youths causing death of all except one.

The dead are Tipu Sultan of Tejgaon College, Towhidur Rahman Palash, Kamruzzaman Kanto and Ibrahim Khalil of Mirpur Bangla College, Shams Rahim Shamam of Maple Leaf International School and Sitaf Jabi Munif of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology.

Of the students, Al Amin survived the attack by the villagers.

Law enforcing agency submitted a charge-sheet in the case on January 13, 2013 while trial of the accused started through framing charges on October 30, 2013.

A total of 14 accused adduced confessional statements before the court.
