The migrant workers who have lost their jobs and returned to their countries must be re-employed in the host countries.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen came up with this statement while addressing a high level meeting of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Switzerland’s Geneva on Monday.

Foreign Minister also called for ensuring all sorts of social safety facilities including health safety and guarantee of jobs to the host countries and recommended for vaccination for all expatriate workers.

Stating about the role expatriate workers play for the social and economic development of their countries, AK Abdul Momen described different initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government to facilitate the pandemic-hit migrant workers.

The Foreign Minister stressed rescuing coronavirus affected expatriate workers to ensure sustainable development and forming appropriate laws to protect the rights and interests.

IOM Director General António Vitorino presided over the high level meeting where presidents, ministers and high officials of different countries, including Columbia, Philippines and Venezuela, took part.
