National Bank Limited and Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited booked the plate round final spot after beating their respective opponents in the semifinals in the ongoing T Sports presents Bashundhara Group Bankers Championship at the Bashundhara Sports Complex Cricket ground on Saturday.
National Bank beat Dhaka Bank Limited by 10-run in the first semifinal while Islami Bank defeated United Commercial Bank Limited by 4 wickets in the second semifinal of the tournament.
In reply, Dhaka Bank were slumped to 57-4 at one stage before Rassel seemed to take the game away from National Bank with a blistering 36-ball 62 knock. However, it seemed all over when Rassel was dismissed as they were forced to stop at 165 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs.
In the day’s second semifinal, United Commercial Bank were able to manage 129 runs for nine in 20 overs after being sent to bat first. The highest 39 runs came from Tasnim Omi’s bat while Sami added 22 runs.
Chasing a modest target, Islami Bank batters lost wickets at regular intervals. But opener Khaled Babbi kept his cool on the other end and smashed a breathtaking 49-ball 56 to seal a thrilling win for his team. Rashid also contributed 31 runs.
