Two 'robbers' killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Kefayet Ullah and Korban Ali Prokash alias Angul Kata Shafiq.

Being informed that a group of robbers were planning to commit a robbery in Damdamia Pahari area of Nhilla union, law enforcers went there to conduct a drive there in the late night, said ASP Nittonandan Dash, assistant director of RAB-15 in Cox’s Bazar.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on elite force, forcing them to take action in self defence, he said.

After the gunfight, the police recovered bodies of Kefayet and Korban Ali from the spot, he added.

Law enforcers also recovered 20,000 pieces of yabas, two pistols and ammunition from the spot, he said.
