BRAC Bank clinch Super Over thriller in Bashundhara Group Bankers Championship

BRAC Bank Limited beat Islami Bank Limited in a dramatic Super Over finish during the rain-marred T Sports presents Bashundhara Group Bankers Championship match at the Bashundhara Sports Complex Cricket Ground on Saturday. 

Reduced to 14 overs per side due to rain, a four and a six by Nur Hasan off the final two balls of the Islami Bank innings tied the revised target at 97. However, BRAC Bank had the last laugh in the super over with Tajkir Ahmed of BRAC Bank was adjudged the player of the match for his brilliant bowling performance.

Put into the bat first, BRAC Bank put on 88 for four in the stipulated 14 overs relaying on Nur Alam’s unbeaten 32 run innings. Tarek Hosen, Towhid Jony and skipper Nazmul Arif Pallab contributed 22, 13 and 12 runs respectively after the rain halted BRAC Bank’s innings twice.

Zakaria Shikdar grabbed two wickets for Islami Bank.

Islami Bank batsmen in the response returned to the field to face 14 overs with a revised target of 97.

Islami Bank made a shaky start during the run chase as they lost two wickets inside 18 runs before Rahid and Didar brought them back into the game with a substantial partnership.

However, the player of the match Tajkir Ahmed later seemed to take the game away from Islami Bank by removing three batsmen in quick succession.

Nur Hasan finally took the game to the super over by clubbing a six and a four in the final two balls.

With three successive wins, BRAC Bank are on the verge of booking semifinal spot while it was Islami Bank’s first defeat in the tournament. 

Meanwhile, First Security Islami Bank Limited and National Bank Limited shared points after the match was called off without a ball bowled due to torrential rain.
