UNESCO GCED Workshop held in Dhaka

Speakers today (Tuesday) at the UNESCO Global citizenship Education (GCED) workshop emphasized the need to develop appropriate attitudes and skills among the secondary school students that will help make Bangladesh world-ready to face the challenges of the 21st century.

The UNESCO priorities, especially education for sustainable development (ESD) were highlighted as essential training component for Global Citizenship Education (GCED).

The day long workshop on dissemination of UNESCO priorities among students of secondary schools through promotion of global citizenship education (GCED) was organized by the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in Bangladesh in cooperation with Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education and UNESCO Dhaka office at Dhanmondi Govt. Girls High School in Dhaka.

The workshop was presided over by Head Master of school Ms. Del Mahfuza Hussain. Mr.Faisal Arafat, Programme Officer, Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU), Mahbubuddin Chowdhury, secretary-general of the UNESCO Club, National coordinator Habibul Haider Chowdhury and Shamsul Muktadir and others.

The workshop was followed by a Focus Group Discussion involving local stakeholders and a training of Teachers (ToT) on GCED training approaches emphasizing transformative style of classroom teaching.
