The Embassy of Japan has donated Japanese books for the Department of Political Science, University of Chittagong.

In this regard, a book donation ceremony titled “Read Japan Project” took place at the Department of Political Science of CU on Sunday (Nov 7).

The project was conducted by Nippon Foundation and the Japan Science Society (JSS).

The books donated to the Department of Political Science range from politics and international relations, economics and business, society to culture, literature, and history.

The project aims to provide various selections of English books to educational and research institutions worldwide.

Moreover, this scheme helps promote a better understanding of Japan and strengthen the interaction and educational exchanges between scholars from the region and beyond, said a press release of the Embassy of Japan.

At the ceremony, CU Vice Chancellor Prof. Shireen Akter, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Benu Kumar Dey and Chairman of Department of Political Science, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Mustafizur Rahman Siddiqui graced the ceremony.

The CU teachers expressed their appreciation for the generous donation of the government of Japan and delivered speeches.

Ambassador ITO Naoki introduced the book donation project, reviewed the history of Japan-Bangladesh relations, and expressed his desire to strengthen further the relationship between the Embassy and the University of Chittagong in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh in 2022.
