Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader's wife Sherifa Quader took oath on Monday as MP (Member of Parliament) of the reserved parliamentary seats for women (women seat-45) in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Sherifa, also adviser to the Jatiya Party chairman, and president of Lalmonirhat district unit of the party, submitted her nomination paper to Md Abul Qasem, joint secretary, EC Secretariat on October 14.

Later, the Election Commission declared her elected recently.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Prof Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, a lawmaker for reserved seats, on September 13.

According to the constitution, only lone candidates nominated by the party are elected unopposed in each reserved seat. As a result, it was only a matter of time for Sherifa to become an MP.
