Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said award named after valiant freedom fighter and editor Bazlur Rahman will encourage the new generation journalists to follow his footprint.
She was speaking as the chief guest at distribution of Bazlur Rahman Memorial Award 2020 held at Liberation War Museum at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday.
Terming the award in memory of Bazlur Rahman a time-befitting, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the information on liberation war will pass from generation to generation through the initiative.
On February 26, 2008, Bazlur Rahman, former editor of the daily Sangbad and a freedom fighter, died of heart attack.
“Journalist Bazlur Rahman was modest, patriotic and freedom fighter. He fought illiteracy, irregularities and communalism. He set an example as to how journalism can be used for a conscious and ideal society. We was vocal for implementation of liberation war spirit. Objective journalism has to be practised following his footprint.”
Former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the programme while Liberation War Museum Trustee Dr Sarwar Ali delivered welcome address.
Jury board member Nawazish Ali Khan and Prof Dr Robayet Ferdous, among others, addressed the occasion which was attended by various eminent citizens and journalists.
